Tignes Prices

Tignes is a highly popular ski resort, located at the head of the Haute Tarentaise, and known world wide for its fantstic snow record and extensive, and varied skiing. Linked with Val d'Isere, Tignes forms part of the large and well linked ski area - the Espace Killy with over 300 km of runs, unlimited, incredible off piste skiing, perfectly groomed slopes for beginners, half pipes and the 1992 Olympics downhill course. The fast and efficient lift system, which includes 2 high speed underground trains (funicular railways), helps to maximise your time on the slopes. One of the funicular trains transports you from Tignes Val Claret to the 'Panoramic Restaurant' on the Grand Motte Glacier. For beginners there are 5 free lifts to practise on, before exploring further afield.

In fact Tignes is open for skiing for 10 months of the year, with its glacier skiing making summer skiing a posibility, and making the resort a favourite with national skiing teams.

Tignes is a large resort, with 150 shops, 115 restaurants and bars and 7 ski schools, in a magnificent setting beneath the twin peaks of La Grande Motte and La Grande Casse. Tignes is divided into four main areas with the main village also sub-divided into different quartiers.

The main resort, at 2100m, was purpose built in 1960's, but has since undergone huge redevelopment, with the ugly concrete buildings being replaced by more traditional style alpine buildings, turning Tignes into a much more aesthetically pleasing place.

Tignes itself divides into Le Lavachet with its high-rise apartment blocks, and more agreeable and convenient Tignes-le-Lac on the edge of a small lake. Le Lac has undergone a complete make-over in recent years and a tunnel acts as a bypass for through-traffic to the principal lift station still higher up at Val Claret. This is the most convenient base for the skiing with immediate access to the underground funicular and the link lift to Val d'Isère.

The lower villages of Tignes-les-Boisses and the valley farming community of Tignes-les-Brévières provide a much more rural and traditional environment. Non Skiing Activities and Apres Ski

For those wanting the Alpine Atmosphere without having to strap on some skis, there are two mountain restaurants accessible to pedestrians: The Tovière Restaurant at the top of the Aeroski from Tignes Le Lac or The Panoramic at the top of the Funicular from Val Claret. From here you can take the cable car to the top of the Grande Motte and take in some of the incredible views. This is also a good place to watch others ski – especially if it’s sunny!

Fancy something a bit different? Why not try Ice diving, dog sledding, paragliding , ice climbing, or hang-gliding

For some relaxation and pampering, check into a spa for the day. Tignespace is the best value - use their jacuzzis, sauna and steam room from €11/day.

Alternatively, for some luxury pampering try one of hotel spas: Montana Hotel or Campanules (Le Lac) or Ecrin du Val Claret (Val Claret).

Tignes has a host of apres ski activites, apart from the large number of shops, restaurants and bars which are on offer. Pick up a Tignes Animation leaflet for weekly events. Also the Multimedia Centre on the top floor of the Maison de Tignes in Le Lac is equipped with internet, video games and digital camera downloading facilities.

There is also a bowling alley in Le Lac and a cinema in Val Claret.
