Tignes is renown for its fantstic snow record and extensive, and varied skiing, Tignes is open for skiing for 10 months of the year, with glacier skiing in the summer
Along with Val d'Isere, Tignes is part of the large and well linked Espace Killy ski area , with over 300 km of runs, extensive off piste skiing, perfectly groomed slopes for beginners, half pipes and the 1992 Olympics downhill course.
The fast and efficient lift system, which includes 2 high speed underground trains (funicular railways), helps to maximise your time on the slopes.
Beginners have 5 free lifts to practise on, before exploring further afield.
Tignes is a large resort, with 150 shops, 115 restaurants and bars and 7 ski schools, in a magnificent setting beneath the twin peaks of La Grande Motte and La Grande Casse. Tignes is divided into four main areas with the main village also sub-divided into different quartiers.
The main resort, at 2100m, was purpose built in 1960's, but has since undergone huge redevelopment, with the ugly concrete buildings being replaced by more traditional style alpine buildings, turning Tignes into a much more aesthetically pleasing place.
Tignes Ski Villages:
1) Le Lavachet with its high-rise apartment blocks
2) Tignes le Lac on the edge of a small lake.
Tignes le Lac, is the original and main village in Tignes. It has undergone a complete make-over in recent years and is an agreeable and convenient part of Tignes.
Situated by the lake, there is easy access to the whole Espace Killy ski area, with the main lift to Val D’Isere located in le Lac.
3) Val Claret is the main lift station and is the most convenient base for the skiing with immediate access to the underground funicular and the link lift to Val d'Isère. - more information on Val Claret

5)Tignes les Brévières provide a much more rural and traditional village atmosphere.
They are well-linked into the Es[ace Killy lift system and cannon-assisted snow-cover usually remains sufficient in late April.
Non Skiing Activities and Apres Ski
For non skiers, there are two mountain restaurants accessible to pedestrians: The Tovière Restaurant at the top of the Aeroski from Tignes Le Lac or The Panoramic at the top of the Funicular from Val Claret.
From here you can take the cable car to the top of the Grande Motte and take in some of the incredible views. This is also a good place to watch others ski – especially if it’s sunny!
