Val Thorens is the highest winter resort in Europe, with the village starting at 2300m. Located in the fantastic Three Valleys ski area, Val Thorens offers access to over 600 km of skiing, with extensive skiing and snowboarding for all levels: for beginners, intermediates and advanced!

The Skiing - Why not try the larget ski area in the world?!

Val Thorens Piste Map

Val Thorens' high altitude, and excellent snow-making facilities, make Val Thorens one of Europe's most snow sure resorts, and ensures a long ski season - usually from November to May! Surrounded by glaciers, there is also summer skiing!

Keen skiiers and boarders can make the most of the 600 km of pistes at their finger tips, and explore the vast 3 Vallees ski area, including the numerous snow parks and off piste areas.

For beginners and less confident skiiers, there is no need to panic! There is a special beginners zone, with 4 escalator-style lifts (or magic carpets) with 10 hectacres of easy skiing so you get get the feel of it before exploring the larger ski area. There are also special beginners ski passes available.

Val Thorens is part of three ski areas: Val Thorens-Orelle (140 km of runs); la Vallée des Bellleville (300 km of runs) and Les 3 Vallées (600 km of runs) so there is plenty of easier slopes for beginners and intermediates, and no need to splash out on the most extensive lift pass if you decide you would prefer to ski closer to home (and maybe spend more time sampling the hot chocolate!)

We have selected a variety of high quality, ski in ski out self catered accommodation, which will suit both families and groups - with swimming pools and saunas for relaxing after a day on the slopes!

The village - lively, friendly and fun for all!

Previously a farming community, Val Thorens was developed into a ski resort in the 1960's, however recent development and investment has ensured that the resorts buildings are less 1960's purpose built, and more traditional style and in keeping with the alpine environment, with wooden cladded, savoyarde style apartments!

Val Thorens is a real ski village, with the majoritiy of the accommodation being ski in ski out - see our accommodation
A largly pedestrianised village, Val Thorens offers a good variety of shops, bars and restaurants with something to suit all tastes - wheter you want a crepe, a traditional Sayorade meal, or some lively apres ski drinks!

Val Thorens is a lively village, offering an array of non-skiing activities: from toboganning tracks for children - and also ones for adults - to snow shoe walks; spa treatments to bowling and a lively weekly entertainment programme organised by the tourist office to include events such as: musinc concerts, ski competitions, and hot chocolate drinking!
